About Us & Our Farm
Delve into Dipple Farm & experience & enjoy the divine beauty offered by the North Devon countryside. Nestled in the valley of the River Torridge our lovely farm offers views up & down the valley & even to Dartmoor in the south.
About Us
We are the Cochrane family – Betty, Carol, Lilly & Steve. Carol & Steve bought the farm in 2017 after moving from London. We moved to Devon to change our lifestyle & enjoy a more sustainable life growing our own food, drinking our own water & using our own wood. Our farm motto is |Holding| Worth| Keeping| & it is a long-term family project which we hope you will want to come & see & play your part in.
Our Holding
Our smallholding at Dipple Farm is full of quirk & interest & we are proud of it. The farmhouse & West Barn were rebuilt in the 17th Century, followed by the South Barn a century later. Interestingly, parts of the house & West Barn include a 1,500-year-old external spiral staircase. Old indeed!
The buildings are being slowly & carefully renovated to preserve & develop the built heritage, character & historical beauty of the place whilst bringing it back to working life. We have an ever-changing complement of livestock giving you a chance to share the land with chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs, horses & (sometime soon) goats.
Our campsite now includes 15 spacious pitches for glamping, camper vans (up to a maximum of 4 at one time) & tents.
Nature
We have our own wild river meadows & lovely walks along the banks of our two rivers so that you can enjoy the wildlife, beautiful views, & river beaches during your stay.
Hundreds of bird species are hiding in our field borders, woods, meadows, & river edges waiting to be discovered. You can explore our nature across the 27-acres of flora, fauna & pasture from the confluence (waters meet) of the Dipple Water & Torridge in the south-east, alongside our rivers, over & through our wildflower meadows, marsh fields & woodlands back up to the Top Field & farm buildings in the north-west of our smallholding.
Witness the spring bluebells & lambs, the riot of summer flowers through to the majestic slide of the autumn landscape towards winter. Whenever you escape at Dipple Farm you will be able to deeply immerse yourself in nature without having to leave our setting.
Dipple Farm Camping (DFC)
For us DFC is a natural extension of “the project” & working with Greener Camping is entirely in keeping with our ethos.
Not only do we have a green farm with lots of nature but we offer easy access to the coast all the way from Tintagel to Ilfracombe & beyond. Nearby attractions include: Bude; Clovelly; Westward Ho!; Bideford; Barnstaple; Torrington; Dartington Glass; The Farmers Arms in our home village of Woolsery & The Hoops Inn (famous for its fish & chips). See our The Local Area page for much more.
